Best Off Road Trails Near Fort Collins
People from around Denver, Colorado Springs, and southern Wyoming often travel to Fort Collins to experience some of the beautiful scenes in the area. These include many exciting sites near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The area features a few prominent forest spaces with many sites for camping, fishing, and other activities. You'll find some exciting off-road paths worth exploring outside Fort Collins, including some in a few of the national parks located near the city. Here are a few of the top trails you can explore while you're in the Fort Collins area.
Cache la Poudre Wilderness
The Old Flowers Road is a path about twelve miles long and is in the Cache la Poudre Wilderness area. The area features some of the best scenic shots around the area. Be advised when visiting that you will be going through private property, so be courteous when traveling out here.
The Kelly Flats in the Cache la Poudre Wilderness area near Fort Collins is about ten miles long and features a high ridge area. The space features many distinct obstacles worth going through. The first part is steep and is best for experienced off-road enthusiasts. You'll find many exciting things to see around this path but be sure you look at how well the trail works if you're going to head out to this unique space.
Roosevelt National Park
The Storm Mountain path is in the Roosevelt National Park area near Loveland. It goes over the summit of the mountain and provides views thousands of feet above sea level. You can see parts of Loveland and Estes Park when you get to the top of the mountain. The trail is available during some parts of the winter season, although it may be closed if the weather is too rough. Check with the local park group to see what the rules are before getting there.
Those with a little more experience will find some fun features on the Pennsylvania Gulch path. The gulch is near the Roosevelt National Forest and requires a four-wheel-drive vehicle for use. You will find many tree roots, rock paths, and other features around this path. It is one of the more challenging places to visit while out here, but it is a worthwhile spot to explore.
As the name suggests, the path at Seven Mile Creek is seven miles long. The path is south of the Red Feather Lakes in the Roosevelt National Forest. The trail is popular during the spring and summer seasons. It may not be open during the winter season due to weather issues, so check beforehand to see if it is open before visiting the spot.
Fort Collins Off-Road Views
If you are just starting out Pole Hill is a great trail to learn the basics of taking your 4wd off road. Pole Hill is a loop about 6.4 miles. It is located in Roosevelt National Forest east of Estes Park. It offers incredible scenery and a wonderful off-road adventure.
You can also visit the Middle St. Vrain Trail while in the Fort Collins area. The trail is in the southwestern area of the town near Lyons. You can find the St. Vrain and Meadow Mountains near the area. You will need a high-clearance vehicle to make it through this challenging space.
The last spot to see for off-roading in Fort Collins is the Moody Hill Trail. The trail is a total of over twenty miles and is near Bellvue. You will find views of the Christ and Buckhorn Mountains and many other scenes of value. The area features a rocky climb and then goes through a rock quarry. You don't have to air down your vehicle when you travel, although you can do the same if you're trying to stay relatively comfortable while you are traveling.
